Note To Self

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI like to think I follow these 3 short sayings already, at least I certainly try, so decided to make this little visible reminder to keep in my Craft room. It is a Crafters Workshop 6 inch Stencil which I have coloured with my 2 favourite Distress Inks – Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserve.

My life has been a bit of a whirl for the last few weeks. I’ve been on a wonderful trip to Hong Kong, accompanying my husband whilst he was on a business trip. It is not somewhere I would have ever really thought about visiting, but I am so glad I did – it is a truly amazing place. We returned 1 month ago today and since we have been back, life has been a little surreal – at least by my standards. I bought a new car – something I am not prone to do as I don’t really enjoy driving and the thought of having to get used to a different car is not something that I look forward to in my life. But ….. my car would not have lasted another winter, so looked around for a newer version of the same car and I have to say I am very happy with the new member of the Dinsdale family. It is lovely.

When I went to look at my new car, one of the most important questions I needed to ask was ” Will it take a baby seat” I had found out a few days before that I am to be a first time Grandma. My Son Michael and Daughter-in-law Hannah, are expecting their first baby on January 31st 2015. It is such wonderful news and I am so happy for them – I am also really thrilled to know that next year I will become a Grandma.

Just over a week ago, I travelled to the Create and Craft TV Studio’s in Peterborough for a screen test to become an onscreen demonstrator for Kanban. I have been making sample cards, demo-ing and the odd workshop for them for a while now, but for long enough I had resisted going for a screen test as I didn’t really think it was “me”. But I passed the screen test ok – although how I managed to talk with a mouth as dry as sandpaper I’ll never know – and was soon scheduled to appear on screen just a few days later on Tuesday last week. I was very nervous before the first of the 2 live shows, but after I had relaxed a liitle, I really enjoyed it and it means that I have now become a third member of a good team who are able to do the demo’s on screen.

During the last week, my youngest son Michael has completely renovated my garden, and myself, my husband John, my 2 son’s David and Michael and my Daughter-in-law Hannah, all had a great time at a family wedding. So as I say, my life has been a little surreal over the last few weeks – not at all like my life, or how I think of my life! I feel very blessed as I sit here writing this and so not only do I feel that I try to “Live with Promise, Love with Passion and Laugh with Pleasure” but these 3 very short statements define my life at the moment and I hope they continue to do so for a long time yet x

David’s Birthday card

Sorry for my prolongued absence which started with an amazing trip to Hong Kong, I have at last got myself organized and back into “normal” life. My eldest son David, is a keen gardener who has his own allotment which he loves to spend time on. He also keeps chickens and is about to start keeping bees – So it seemed a natural choice to make him a card full all things gardening. The card is a tent card, made up from lots of different supplies, so it is hard give credit to them all. I made the shed from a sheet of wood effect card from Kanban and I found the lovely grass border made out of felt on a holiday in Majorca. He loved the card so I am so glad that i made it. Hope you like it too x

A little bit of allsorts

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAn A5 card made with a little bit of allsorts. The base and one of the layers are Kraft card, which I have embossed with one of Sheena Douglas’s embossing folders and distressed a little with Walnut distressing ink. The blue layer is white card that has been embossed with a bark effect embossing folder and then distressed with Peacock Feathers distressing ink. The 3 flowers are made out of waxed kraft paper – 6 layers punched and then scrunched up before securing with blue brads. The tag is from the Craftwork Cards “Botanica” tag pad. Ever wondered what to do with all those little hanging ribbons that you cut out of your clothes – bunch several different ones together and tie onto a tag – I think its very effective. The little butterfly is one of Brenda Waltons from K & Company. A couple of buttons and a few gems to finish off x

Proud Peacock

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA A 4 drawer MDF Cabinet that I decorated with some lovely papers I had in my collection. They were originally part of a calender, but they are such lovely images that I couldn’t bear to throw them away once the calendar was out of date. I think they look lovely on this cabinet. I used brown shoe polish to stain the edges of the cabinet as I thought it complemented the images so well. Hope you like it as much as I do x

Faux Leather Technique

I thought I would have a go at Sheena Douglas’s Faux Leather technique and I’m rather pleased with the results. The difference from the original Kraft card to the finished result is amazing. Sheena has a Youtube tutorial here if you’re interested inn trying it for yourself.   Thats all for now xOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
